We use Microsoft products like Visual Studio and SQL Server at work. Our software development team uses a Microsoft Visual Studio Test product. We have previously tested software projects developed in Visual Studio with the Selenium product tool. Later, we started using Microsoft Visual Studio Test Professional. We created our testing processes with the help of the Visual Studio Test tool. We manage all test scenarios of our software projects through this tool.
  • Test scenarios in the SDLC process can be easily applied to the Visual Studio Test tool.
  • It works compatible with Microsoft Windows Server and database.
  • The debug screen of the Visual Studio Test product is quite successful. It allows you to quickly access the details of the error received.
  • The user community of the Visual Studio Test product is weak. For instant problems with this product, it is necessary to quickly reach the source of the error.
  • Licence fees need to be more reasonable. License prices need to be reduced so that they can easily compete with free testing tools.
The Visual Studio Test product of Agile and SDLC processes works successfully. In the current situation, Agile works successfully in the scenarios recommended by the product for its processes. But in more difficult testing stages, such as regression testing, we can get instant errors.

I have been using visual studio products for about 9 years. We are also making our improvements in Visual Studio at the institution where I am currently working. For tests, we use the Visual Studio Test tool in addition to the Selenium product. We create the test cases of our software through this tool. Visual Studio is a very useful tool for unit testing and component testing. It is also used in code evaluation and code correction stages. Thus, it provides efficiency in both the development and testing process. We can perform our manual and automatic tests.
  • It plays an active role in both the testing and development process.
  • It is the only tool for all test processes.
  • User friendly design.
  • Easy of use
  • Database management needs to be improved.
  • Shortcuts are insufficient.
  • It is difficult to learn.
  • It is costly.
Selenium is used as a test tool at the institution where I work now. We use Visual Studi during the development phase. We started using the Visual Studio Test tool in order to avoid paying for two different tools for development and testing processes. It is a much more useful tool than Selenium.

Visual Studio Test Professional is used by our R&D and Dev teams for running rigorous tests on our in-house software. We have very unique business needs because we develop a lot of custom software and custom tools to manage that software. With VS Test Pro we are not limited on the scope and scale of innovation we can embark on. It fits perfectly with the C# and .NET environment most of our developers prefer. The automation that Visual Studio Test Pro provides the much needed scalability to run our unit testing.
  • Availability of the desktop client or the web interface. The web interface being the favorite and providing a better experience.
  • It enables you to write unit tests with so much ease.
  • Allows the recording and repeating of manual tests
  • It can be set up for collaboration.
  • The price is a bit out of reach of many.
  • The learning curve is quite steep. It needs a lot of foundational knowledge to grasp.
  • Can be quite hardware-resource intensive.
Visual Studio Test Professional is best for .NET and C# based development, which is what 90% of our developers and projects do. It is an integral part of the CI/CD pipeline for our custom made Enterprise resource planning tool. It also works very well with Azure providing seamless integration to way more functionality.

I use Visual Studio Test Professional across the whole organization in order to test the applications that I code and develop. It allows me to do testing in the cloud and test in multiple environments in order to make sure that all of my releases are clean and reliable. Highly recommend.
  • Testing in multiple environments
  • Testing in the cloud
  • Recording test results
  • Name confusion with Microsoft Test Manager
  • Testing across platforms could have easier user interface
  • Testing in the cloud could have easier user interface
Visual Studio Test Professional is extremely well suited for people who want to test applications they are coding in a manner that is easily repeatable, recordable, and done in a business-like manner. Visual Studio Test Professional is less suitable for the actual coding itself of applications you are working on.

Visual Studio Test Professional is being used within my branch (in a single department) as part of developing a GUI to be utilized by air traffic personnel (especially for maintenance planning). The GUI will be capable of being displayed on multiple platforms, in which real-time data of various navigation approach systems will be accessible to air traffic across the contiguous United States.
  • Multi-platform development capabilities
  • No need for additional plug-ins
  • Real-time code debugging capabilities
  • Supports many different programming languages
  • Auto-populate functionality
  • Intuitive and user friendly design
  • Very easy to create libraries
  • Requires a lot of RAM/memory
  • The need to reboot one's computer following an update is cumbersome.
  • Very expensive, therefore, likely not accessible to single-users/small start-up businesses
Due to the ability to code using various programming languages, this tool is good for businesses to integrate tacross many different needs/applications, as well as various employee skill-sets. This tool may be less appropriate for single-users/start-ups since it requires hardware/firmware with enough power/space to support its use.

Visual Studio Test Professional is used by our Software Testers in our core product testing as well as our client specific customized studies. Visual Studio Test Professional allows our Testers to write and manage Test Plans, Test Suites and Test Cases as well as run manual and automated tests to assure the software is stable, works as intended and is bug free (or as close to bug free as possible!)
  • Visual Studio Test Professional when paired with Azure DevOps is the best solution for Test Case Management when compared to other Testing tools we've used in the past.
  • Test Results and Artifacts are always available with full traceablility for audits.
  • Testing and Release Management are tied together as one continuous pipeline.
  • Interface can be confusing.
  • Needs more shortcut keys.
  • Needs better export features, like exporting to Excel.
If you're used to the Visual Studio IDE for coding, then it feels very natural using Visual Studio Test Professional. If you're not used to the GUI, then it does have a bit of a learning curve and then Testers might be better suited using the web interface. Both accomplish the same end results and the licensing covers both options.

We use Visual Studio Test Professional to interact with Team Foundation Server to:
- Create and manage test plans.
- Create, author, and maintain manual and automated test cases.
- Manage the association of automation for test case artifacts.
- Run exploratory tests.
- Analyze previous manual, automated, or exploratory test runs.
- File rich actionable bugs while executing manual test runs or from automated test runs.
- Create and provide individual or shared lab environments with multiple machines for development or testing with Lab Management.
- Connect to physical or virtual lab environments for development or testing with Lab Management.
- Facilitate structured User Acceptance Testing (UAT) from business users.
- And lots more…
  • The debugger is extremely good.
  • There are many valuable features, including the integration between the management data and the test cases.
  • The unit testing functionality is very helpful.
  • The solution needs more reports and more dashboards, as well as more details for each originated spare test case or best guess in test cases.
  • The service right now is far too expensive. You need to pay per user.
  • The tools for unit testing can be improved, giving a better ability to manage tests.
You have the ability to link them with the requirements and user stories. You also have the ability to track the running of test cases and the reporting of the results of each test case. You are able to send some reports via dashboard control to see the status of the overall testing across specific requirements or specific user stories. It enables us to connect the bugs and the cases to the requirements.

It was used to manage manual and automated tests in a software development project using C#, Visual Studio. With Test Professional, the QA team could use a lot of Microsoft test features, without the need for a high-cost Visual Studio Enterprise license for each tester. It allows full integration with the SCRUM artifacts and product backlog management through Microsoft TFS.
  • Creation and handling of test plans and test cases.
  • Full integration with Microsoft Team Foundation Server, including Agile or Scrum templates.
  • Recording and automation of tests in Internet Explorer or Windows desktop environments.
  • Test Manager became outdated and can be fully substituted by Microsoft TFS features most of the time.
Test Professional will work better if the software has been tested on a Windows desktop or Internet Explorer. If you have Microsoft TFS, the reasons to use Test Professional are to record test sessions, automate tests and reduce the cost of QA team Visual Studio licenses.

We use visual studio test professional in conjunction with Team Foundation Server to complete our development process. It helps us keep an efficient workflow and links to and from work items in Team Foundation Server. Without it, testing developments in our products would be difficult.
  • Friendly web interface - we find the web interface to be a good focal point for our testing.
  • Links to work items - Test professional links nicely to Team Foundation Server meaning we can generate a test from a work item, and a work item (bug/feature request) from a test.
  • Flexible - the option to use the desktop application over the web interface is useful for some management operations.
  • The web interface, while very comprehensive, just can't get close to the desktop test manager when it comes to managing the tests. It would be nice for the desktop client and web interface to match up functionality wise.
  • A direct link to Team Foundation Server work items would be useful, currently you can't have a dashboard showing test work item summarys and development work item summarys. For us, this means that we can't compare active development items with active tests on the same screen
Test Professional is great for our development process where a developer closes a work item out, and creates a test from their work item. This test is then easy to reference for both test execution and test result review. It also helps build an audit trail for development items.
